The B-52's influence cuts a wide path through much of so-called 'modern rock' — from the lo-fi efforts of nouveau garage bands to the retro-hip of ultra-lounge, to the very core of dance music itself. The B-52's created a unique lexicon of songs, styles, phrases and images which would set the standard for the development of the alternative music scene as we know it today. This legacy reaches well into this millennium, with the band currently recording a new album, tentatively scheduled for early 2008, and Rolling Stone recently commenting:

“These days, bands from the Strokes to Yeah Yeah Yeahs hang out at the crossroads between punk rock and New Wave; back in 1979, the B-52's built that intersection."

The ‘Wild Planet 2007 Remix EP’ is second in a series of classic B-52’s albums revisited by hot new boutique label Planet Clique, featuring remixes of key tracks taken from the seminal 1980 album, A&R’d by award-winning producers and remixers MHC (Chris Smith & Philip Larsen).

The previous green vinyl ‘Whammy! 2005 Remix EP’ saw worldwide acclaim from DJs, press and radio alike, with Riton’s storming ‘Trism’ remix enjoying particular attention at Space in Ibiza, as well as in clubs such as Nag Nag Nag & Trash. The EP also picked up a host of press in DJ Magazine, Mixmag, M8, NME etc. The follow up ‘Mesopotamia Remixes 2006’ saw equally acclaimed remixes from Rob Mello, Majortweaks and MHC.

This time around a wider package of remixes guarantees a mix for most. Every time unmistakably The B-52’s, but with a fresh twist for the new and old ears and dancefloors alike.

The ‘Mesopotamia 2006 Remix EP’ is second in a series of classic B-52’s albums revisited by hot new boutique label Planet Clique, featuring remixes of key tracks taken from the seminal David Byrne-produced 1982 mini album.

The previous green vinyl ‘Whammy! 2005 Remix EP’ saw worldwide acclaim from DJs, press and radio alike, with Riton’s storming ‘Trism’ remix enjoying particular attention at Space in Ibiza over the summer, as well as in clubs such as Nag Nag Nag & Trash. The EP also picked up a host of press in DJ Magazine, Mixmag, M8, NME etc.

Mesopotamia 2006 Remix EP - The Players:

Rob Mello
Since 1985, London based DJ and producer Rob Mello has recorded, produced, and remixed a diverse catalogue of house records since 1992 on legendary labels such as Azuli and Boys Own. With Matthew Herbert, he also received a BAFTA nomination for writing the incidental music on the UK club culture movie ‘Human Traffic’ A long time B-52’s fan, he was so inspired by his first acid remix of ‘Mesopotamia’, he turned out a special disco mix at the same time.

Manhattan Clique / MHC
MHC/Manhattan Clique (aka Grammy-winning Philip Larsen & Chris Smith) have spent 2005 turning out club and radio mixes for Goldfrapp, Fischerspooner, Stereophonics, Moby as well as DJing around the world. They are also responsible for the A&R throughout this remix series, and present several mixes for this package, including ‘Mesopotamia’ and another album highlight ‘Loveland’.

Danny Krivit
Legendary NYC DJ Danny Krivit’s classic and impossible-to-get-hold-of ‘Mesopotamia’ re-edit (originally available on Strut) makes a welcome return. Since the 1970’s, Danny has edited, produced and mixed a plethora of material for artists as diverse as James Brown and Gloria Gaynor, putting his status as studio technician firmly at the top of the pile. He has also worked with such luminaries as Francois K and Larry Levan.

Majortweaks
Last but not least Lionrock man Roger Lyons makes a welcome return under his Majortweaks moniker to remix the classic Kate and Cindy workout ‘Cake’. He has recently worked with the likes of New Order, Ian Brown, Ladytron …and the Bee Gees!

SSM001
Formed on an October night in 1976 following drinks at an Athens, GA, Chinese restaurant, The B-52’s played their first gig at a friend's house on Valentine's Day 1977. Naming themselves after Southern slang for exaggerated 'bouffant" hairdos, the newly-christened B-52's (Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson and Ricky Wilson) began weekend road trips to New York City for pick-up gigs at CBGB's and a handful of other venues. Before long, their thrift store aesthetic and genre-defying songs were the talk of the post-punk underground.
The B-52’s influence cuts a wide path through much of “modern rock”; as Rolling Stone recently wrote, “These days, bands from the Strokes to Yeah Yeah Yeahs hang out at the crossroads between punk rock and New Wave; back in 1979, the B-52’s built that intersection.”
While we wait for The B-52’s long-awaited new studio album, it’s high time to remind the world of the band’s enduring relevance via a series of limited edition, exclusive must-have 12” coloured vinyl issues. Each will feature 4 brand new remixes from each of the band’s 7 classic albums. A host of established and emerging talent from the European and US dance scene (naturally all huge fans of the band) will be delivering brand new remixes destined straight for the club
dancefloors over the next few months.
1983’s Whammy! album is first up for a revisit, on deluxe green vinyl.
To get the ball rolling Riton reworks Trism. Riton has recently remixed the likes of Scissor Sisters, Kylie Minogue, New Order, Mylo and Alter Ego. Riton is a huge emerging talent.
Song For A Future Generation is reworked by Majortweaks – aka Roger Lyons, one half of 90’s Manchester duo Lionrock. He has since worked with the likes of New Order, Ian Brown, Ladytron …and the Bee Gees! This was the main single release from Whammy! in both the US and UK, and is taken to eleven in this rousing electro update. Majortweaks also remix Legal Tender from the album, which sees vocalists Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson in startling form.
MHC remix Whammy Kiss. MHC, aka Philip Larsen & Chris Smith, have remixed most of the electro premier league in their few years on the scene. Soft Cell, The Human League, Erasure, Moby, The Knife etc have all benefited from their nips and tucks, and they are currently putting the final production touches to Andy Bell from Erasure’s debut album, set for release later in 2005. Larsen also won a Grammy last year for his production work for Kylie Minogue. MHC, in their
Manhattan Clique alter ego, are also responsible for the A&R throughout this remix series.
