“A real Giorgio Moroder stomper – 5/5” (DMC Update)
Imagine Goldfrapp crossed with Kate Bush, and you might get Formatic - London-based duo Kate (vocals, synths) and Nik Hodges (synths), who also just happen to be siblings. However, The Carpenters this certainly isn’t…
The band have already worked with leading producer Dave Bascombe (Depeche Mode, Peter Gabriel), as well as producers/remixers Cicada, Robbie Rivera and Alex Gold. Formatic also provided the theme tune for VH1/MTV's 'BSTV' show, as well as numerous other projects.
Previous promo-only outing 'Over To You', remixed by Hoxton Whores, hit #8 in the UK Club Chart - the highest placed white label on the chart for some time, leading to both major and independent label attention.
As a result, Formatic recently signed to new electro label Planet Clique, and release a debut single’ State Of Play’ for the label on 9th April. The single has already been remixed by Planet Clique head honchos Philip Larsen and Chris Smith, under their MHC guise (Goldfrapp, Moby, Fischerspooner). The single will be followed with further singles and an album release later in 2007.
‘State Of Play’ also appears on Planet Clique’s ‘Robopop – The Return’ current compilation, which has received rave reviews. Watch out for more live dates announced shortly.
